ADC denies crisis claim, says Obi received preferential treatment before exit

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed suggestions that internal wrangling forced the exit of Peter Obi, insisting the former presidential candidate enjoyed more support than other aspirants while in the party.
National Publicity Secretary of the party, Bolaji Abdullahi, stated this during an appearance on Prime Time, a programme on Arise Television, where he challenged Obi’s justification for defecting.
Obi had recently left the ADC alongside Rabiu Kwankwaso to join the Nigeria Democratic Congress.
Abdullahi acknowledged that the departure of the two politicians was significant but maintained that it did not deal a fatal blow to the party’s broader coalition agenda.
He explained that the ADC was formed as part of efforts by opposition figures to build a united front capable of challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress, stressing that collaboration remained key to achieving electoral success.
The spokesman further dismissed claims that legal disputes within the party influenced Obi’s decision, noting that the ADC currently faces only a few cases, which he described as minor.
According to him, contrary to allegations of bias, Obi benefited more from the party’s internal arrangements than any other aspirant, even as differing visions among key stakeholders contributed to recent political realignments.
