Benue PDP Media Consultant Joins State Assembly Race

Former Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State, Chief Bemgba Iortyom, has joined the race for the Benue State House of Assembly seat representing Mata Constituency.

Iortyom picked up his nomination forms on Wednesday at the PDP secretariat in Makurdi. He explained that his decision to contest followed the unanimous endorsement by party members in the constituency, who nominated him as their consensus candidate for the election.

The former Media Consultant to the party said he shelved his governorship ambition after his elder brother from Ushongo and former Minister of Justice and Attorney-

General of the Federation, Chief Michael Kaase Aondoakaa (SAN), emerged as the party’s consensus governorship candidate.
According to him, the party’s decision created an opportunity for him to serve his people at another level.

“It is my firm belief that the State Assembly offers a veritable platform for me to bring government closer to my people, particularly those in the rural areas who are largely isolated from governance,” he said.

“With over two decades of experience in active participatory politics, coupled with quality legal training from one of the best law faculties in Nigeria — the Faculty of Law, Moses Adasu University, Makurdi — I am adequately prepared for the task of representing Mata Constituency in the Benue State House of Assembly, if given the mandate by the people.”

He added that having “a man of uncommon courage, clarity of thought, and world-class administrative experience” like Chief Aondoakaa as governor would further strengthen his desire to serve the people of Mata Constituency effectively.
