The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has intensified efforts to support the country’s food security drive through strategic partnerships with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security and the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development.
The collaboration forms part of the Air Force’s expanded non-kinetic operations aimed at aligning national security objectives with Nigeria’s agricultural transformation agenda.
A delegation representing the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, visited the two ministries to explore areas of cooperation that would strengthen the operations of NAF Farms Limited, the Air Force’s flagship agricultural initiative.
The delegation was led by the Chief of Civil-Military Relations, Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, and included the Managing Director of NAF Farms Limited, Air Vice Marshal Abdulrasheed Kotun, alongside other senior officers from the Civil-Military Relations Branch.
During a meeting with the Minister of Livestock Development, Alhaji Idi Mukhtar Maiha, the NAF delegation commended the ministry’s efforts in implementing the National Ranching Policy and promoting livestock development partnerships across the country.
The CAS said collaboration with the ministry would support the expansion of modern NAF livestock farms through improved livestock breeds, veterinary services and specialised training in animal husbandry and agricultural technology.
In his response, Maiha described the initiative as strategic and forward-looking, while also praising the NAF for its contributions to national security and stability.
Similarly, at the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, the delegation commended the minister, Senator Abubakar Kyari, for ongoing interventions aimed at stabilising food prices, promoting dry-season farming and strengthening national food reserves.
The NAF also sought the ministry’s support in integrating NAF Farms Limited into national agricultural programmes, particularly in the areas of mechanised farming, improved seedlings and fertiliser access.
Kyari assured the delegation of the ministry’s support, as both ministries agreed to pursue technical cooperation and policy integration to position NAF Farms Limited as a strategic platform for increasing food production, supporting livelihoods and complementing counter-insurgency efforts through sustainable development initiatives.
