The lawmaker representing Oredo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Esosa Iyawe, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress, (APC), citing irreconcilable differences with Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo.
Iyawe, who was initially elected into the National Assembly on the platform of the Labour Party in 2023, defected to the APC on December 5, 2024, before now exiting the ruling party again for the Nigeria Democratic Congress, (NDC).
In a resignation letter dated May 6, 2026 and addressed to APC leadership in Ward 1, Oredo Local Government Area, the lawmaker said his decision followed careful reflection and political realignment.
He confirmed that he has also withdrawn his expression of interest to contest the 2027 House of Representatives election under the APC.
“This regrettable decision has been made after careful reflection and consideration. I am grateful for the opportunity to have been associated with the party,” Iyawe wrote.
He added that his exit was driven by what he described as personal and political disagreements with Governor Okpebholo.
“It is imperative to state that this decision is a result of the irreconcilable difference between me and my Governor His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, the Governor of Edo State,” he stated.
The federal lawmaker further requested that his resignation be formally recorded by the party and reflected in relevant Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC), records, adding that he is no longer bound by any obligations to the APC.
Iyawe’s latest move adds to the wave of political realignments already shaping early preparations for the 2027 general elections.
