FCT Minister Nyesom Wike is aggressively advancing the “Opening Up the Satellite Towns” initiative, transforming the 13-kilometer Yangoji-Gomani road into a vital economic artery designed to bridge the gap between Abuja’s urban center and the rural hinterlands of Kwali.
By integrating high-spec infrastructure—headlined by a newly finished bridge, nearly complete drainage systems, and modern street lighting—the project seeks to end the isolation of rural communities and curb urban migration, all set for a milestone inauguration marking the President’s third anniversary in June 2026.
Wike, during an inspection in Kwali yesterday, emphasized that the initiative is primarily a mission of socio-economic liberation for rural dwellers.
He noted that the project is a centerpiece of the President’s mandate to tackle rural-urban migration.
According to him, bringing world-class infrastructure to rural doorsteps, the government aims to transform these “hinterlands” into viable economic zones where citizens can thrive without migrating to the city.
“I believe that when Mr. President comes here, it will be a thing of joy for him to see that development is passing through all the satellite towns,” Wike remarked, highlighting the shift toward inclusive growth.
The Minister noted that “with a newly completed bridge now links previously isolated communities across water bodies, Ddainage systems are 90–95% optimized to prevent seasonal flooding that often cripples rural transport, and street lighting pillar installations are underway to illuminate formerly dark rural stretches, enhancing nighttime safety and commerce.
“The project is on track for a June 2026 inauguration, strategically timed to mark the President’s third year in office.
“For the people of Kwali and surrounding settlements, the completion of this road signifies more than just easier travel; it represents the arrival of “Renewed Hope” in the form of trade access, improved security, and the formal integration of rural voices into the FCT’s development story.”
