Presidential Aspirant in PDP for the 2027 elections, Sen. Sandy Omor

By Jude Opara

The sole presidential aspirant in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2027 elections, Sen. Sandy Omor on Thursday played down the defections of all the governors elected on the platform of the party, saying he will still win the presidential election, regardless.
Omor who spoke with newsmen shortly after his screening by the party’s Screening Committee said, the recent defection of all the governors elected on the platform of the party will not hinder the success of the PDP in 2027.
“So I’m not bothered at all about whether we have governors in PDP presently or we do not have. Some of these governors were even a problem to us. It’s good that they left.
“So I believe that our campaign will be centered on the grassroots. We believe that the people of this country yearn for a change and we reflect that change. We understand where they are. We know what they are going through. We are going to speak their language”.
And they will understand us. I believe that overwhelmingly they will vote for us across this country. The governors are voting for us.
He explained that he has all it takes to return the country to the path of glory, adding that at a time like this, the country needs a government that will be people oriented.
“I have the experience across the three tiers of government. I don’t think there’s any other candidate who shares that distinction with me. And I also uniquely share the distinction with Mr. President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“Having double barrel experience in executive and legislative government. Having been senator and having served in the executive, I have a holistic understanding of how government functions.
“I know the limitations of government and I’m ready and willing to make corrections when necessary. And take Nigeria to heights that we are yearning for”.
The aspirant added that contrary to insinuations in certain quarters that the PDP is not serious about the contest, insisting that he is in the race to win.
“If I were not in this race ready to win, I wouldn’t waste my time. Okay? We are in this race to win. And we believe the PDP vehicle is solid enough. This is an iconic party. This is a legacy party and institution. We know we have had our vicissitudes and crises.
“But we have overcome them. I’m very trusting that in the days ahead and in the months ahead, under my leadership and the cooperation of the leadership and followership of this party, we shall roll out our machine very quickly. And we can win. This is the People’s Democratic Party. We can win”.
However the opposition aspirant while appraising the administration of President Bola Tinubu said; “I’m not one of those persons who, because you are in the opposition, you will condemn everything the president has done.
“So there are some things the President has done that are very applaudable, and I will applaud the President on those things. And where he’s not doing well, I’ll say so and tell Nigerians that I will do better. Look, let me say this to you”.
Omor also dismissed the claims that there are factions in the party, insisting that the Supreme Court has settled the matter with Alhaji Abdulrhaman Mohammed as the National Chairman.a
