No fewer than 81 aspirants are set to contest in the House of Representatives primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Prominent among the aspirants are Mrs. Regina Akume, wife of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, and Mrs. Blessing Onuh, daughter of former Senate President David Mark.

A list released in the early hours of Saturday showed that the Vandeikya/Konshisha Federal Constituency, the home constituency of Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia, recorded the highest number of aspirants with 14 contenders vying for the party’s ticket.

The Gboko/Tarka Federal Constituency, where Senator George Akume hails from, has seven aspirants contesting for the APC ticket, including his wife, Regina Akume.

In the Otukpo/Ohimini Federal Constituency, Mrs. Blessing Onuh is contesting alongside three other aspirants for the party’s nomination.

Meanwhile, as of the time of filing this report, the APC state secretariat in Makurdi was crowded with aspirants and party members awaiting the distribution of voting materials for the primaries.
