The Zone 7 commander-in charge of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC)unit command of Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Jonas Agwu, has said that the leadership of the corps is ready to sensitize the road users on the danger of over-speeding as well as overloading against ember month.

Agwu, who stated this during the flag-off of “Operation Shield 4” campaign in Gwagwalada, pointed out that the operation shield 4 is geared towards reducing accidents on the highways.

He said that the operation would go a long way to clear obstructions which caused accidents on the highways, noting that the campaign was not targeted at all the routes in the country.

According to him, the critical road corridors for the campaign are Abuja-Lokoja, Lagos-Ibadan, Benin and Asaba highways respectively.

“We are looking at ways of bringing down road crashes to barest minimum along these routes.

“We want to see how we can tackle all the challenges between now and the crucial ember period to bring down road crashes by 15% as well as fatal accidents by 25%,” he said.

Agwu, however, revealed that about 200 FRSC personnel, 40 patrol vehicles and motorbikes have been deployed to the entire specific routes for the operation.

This, according to him, traffic violators are expected to pay N10,000 and above depending on the offence committed.
