It was a huge relief and hope of a better life for one of the victims of the first bomb blast that rocked Nyanya, a suburb of Abuja early this year, Miss Mary Modu, as the Knight of Saint Mulumba Nigeria of the Catholic Church, Abuja Sub-Council, donated cash to upset her house rent, including a startup capital and an artificial leg for her amputated limb.
Peoples Daily reports that the gesture was a follow up to an earlier promise to adopt Miss Modu, when the group first visited some victims of the blast receiving treatment at the at Wuse General Hospital, in the nation’s capital.
Making the donation at the weekend, during the Knight’s visit to the beneficiary, at the Hospital as she was about to be discharged after her treatment for months , the Worthy Grand Knight, of the Knight of Saint Mulumba, Abuja Sub-Council, Dr. Frank Odafe, accompanied by other members, said it was in fulfillment of the organisation’s promise when they first visited her.
“We are so passionate about these victims of bomb blast, because they did not envisage this barbaric act before it happens; and we as an organ in the Catholic church took it upon ourselves to assist the needy and sick in the society as set by the God in the bible, this is what the knight stand for to build- a just society for all and sundry.
He therefore stressed that FCT residents and other Nigerians should always learn to help those who are disadvantaged among them in the society.
However, Odafe, who is the president of Association of General and Private Medical Practitioners in Nigeria, also used the opportunity to call on Nigerians be more vigilant on the outbreak of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in the country, urging the public to always maintain cleanliness at all cost.
He expressed appreciation to efforts of government at all level for their proactive roles to contain the spread of EVD outbreak in the FCT and the country at large.
He stressed for more synergy between Government and Medical Doctors to not only checkmate spread of the epidemic, but to drive it out of the country.
On her part, Miss Modu and her immediate family, thanked members of the knight for their generosity and for always coming to see her and all the cares they offered her.
“I’m so delighted in what they have done for me today, my gratitude goes to them for they have indirectly put life back to me, the almighty God will reward them and their families for this kind gesture, today my heart is full of joy,” Miss Modu expressed.
