APC to conduct direct primary for presidential ticket in 8,809 wards
The All Progressives Congress (APC) says it will conduct direct primary to select its presidential candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
In the guidelines for the conduct of its 2026 presidential primary election released in a statement issued on Thursday, Felix Morka, APC national publicity secretary, the party said the direct primaries would hold in all the 8,809 political wards in the country.
The party also approved the composition of the presidential primary election committee, appeal committee, and state coordinators.
Morka stated that the decisions were approved by the national working committee (NWC) in accordance with the APC constitution and the Electoral Act.
“The decisions were approved by the Party’s National Working Committee (NWC) in accordance with the Constitution of the Party, the Electoral Act, and APC’s commitment to transparent and credible primary election process,” the statement reads.
According to the guidelines, the APC will adopt a direct primary mode for the presidential election.
The party stated that all registered members would be eligible to vote for their preferred candidates across the country’s 8,809 wards.
The APC added that results from the 774 LGAs would be collated by designated collation officers while state coordinators and collation officers would oversee the exercise in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The guidelines added that collated results would be presented to the presidential primary election committee in Abuja on May 24, 2026.
The APC named Pius Anyim, former secretary to the government of the federation, as chairman of the presidential primary election committee.
Other members of the committee include Ken Nnamani, former senate president; Victor Ndoma-Egba, former senate leader; Yakubu Dogara, former house of representatives speaker; and Idris Wada, former Kogi state governor.
The party also appointed Aminu Masari, former Katsina state governor, as chairman of the presidential primary election appeal committee.
Other members of the appeal panel are Samuel Piwuna, a former director at Tertiary Education Trust Fund; and Patricia Etteh, former speaker of the house of representatives.
The APC also announced state coordinators and collation officers for the exercise.
Among those appointed are Hope Uzodimma for Imo, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for Kwara, Ahmadu Fintiri for Adamawa and Babagana Zulum for Borno.
Others include Siminalayi Fubara for Rivers, Dauda Lawal for Zamfara, Teslim Folarin for Oyo, and Uche Ekwunife for Anambra.
The list also includes governors and political leaders from all 36 states and the FCT.
