
Ex-Gov Abubakar Beats Tuggar, 5 Others To Win Bauchi APC Gov’ship Ticket
Former governor of Bauchi State, Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, has won the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election in the state, defeating six other contestants.
Those who participated in the primary were former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, Nura Manu Soro, Bala Maijama’a A. Wunti, Baba Abubakar Suleiman, Kabir Baba Ma’aji, and Yakubu Yakubu Abdullahi.
The results were announced in the early hours of Saturday by the Chairman of the APC Governorship and House of Assembly Primaries Committee for Bauchi State, John Bassey Abang, a retired Assistant Inspector General of Police.
According to him, Abubakar secured a total of 57,517 votes to defeat the six other aspirants who participated in the exercise.
He was followed by Tuggar, who secured 26,001 votes; Manu Soro, 13,638 votes; Wunti, 13,648; Ma’aji, 8,157 votes; Suleiman, 7,688 votes; and Yakubu Abdullahi, 7,181 votes.
Abang declared Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, who secured the highest number of votes cast, as the winner of the governorship primary.
Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar served as governor of Bauchi State from 2015 to 2019 under the APC platform.
He lost his re-election bid in 2019 to incumbent Governor Bala Mohammed of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
