A political group under the aegis of APC Stakeholders in Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State has alleged that former Zamfara State Governor and Senator representing Zamfara West, Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar, is considering aligning with opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The allegation was contained in a statement signed by Hon. Ibrahim El-Marad on behalf of the group.

According to the statement, information available to the group indicated that Senator Yari was allegedly planning to support an alliance against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state ahead of the next general elections.

The group further alleged that some loyalists of the former governor hired local vigilantes and criminal elements to disrupt the recently concluded APC primary elections in Maradun I and Maradun II State Assembly constituencies.

The stakeholders described the alleged actions as undemocratic, warning that such activities could undermine the peaceful conduct of elections and threaten the political stability of the area.

“These actions allegedly embarked upon by Senator Yari’s loyalists were totally undemocratic and could have resulted in chaos, thereby disrupting the conducive atmosphere of the just-concluded primary elections and the forthcoming 2027 general elections,” the statement said.

The group maintained that Senator Yari could not diminish the popularity of the APC in Maradun Local Government Area, Zamfara West Senatorial District, and the state at large.

It called on party leaders and security agencies to take proactive measures to safeguard the integrity and electoral chances of the APC in Zamfara State.

The stakeholders also commended the massive turnout of party supporters during the presidential and state assembly primaries in the area, describing it as a sign of continued support for the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle.

According to the group, the large turnout demonstrated the minister’s strong grassroots support and his role in unifying the APC across Zamfara State.

They added that the successful conduct of the primaries reflected the confidence of party members and supporters in the leadership of Dr. Matawalle both in Maradun Local Government Area and across the state.
