From Bashir Rabe Mani, Sokoto
Governor Ahmed Aliyu has warned politicians against using politics as a platform to destabilise the peace currently being enjoyed in Sokoto State.
The governor gave the warning on Wednesday while paying Sallah homage to Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar at his palace as Muslims
across the world celebrate Eid-el-Kabir.
This was contained in a statement issued in Sokoto by Abubakar Bawa, Director-General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Sokoto.
Governor Aliyu said the state was enjoying a peaceful atmosphere and harmonious coexistence among residents, stressing that the peace must be sustained.
“We will not fold our arms and allow unpatriotic citizens to jeopardise our peaceful coexistence,” he said.
The governor noted that his administration was investing huge resources in infrastructure development across the state, adding that public projects must be protected from vandalism.
“We will deal decisively with anyone found vandalising public infrastructure. These projects being executed across the state are funded with taxpayers’ money and must therefore be protected by every well-meaning citizen,” he stated.
Aliyu also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting security agencies in tackling banditry in the state.
According to him, the fight against banditry requires collective responsibility and greater cooperation from citizens.
“We need to come together and stop the informant syndrome if we are to succeed in defeating bandits,” the governor said.
He described informants as more dangerous than the bandits themselves, noting that criminal activities would not thrive without insider collaboration.
The governor further disclosed that the executive arm of government would soon forward a bill to the State House of Assembly seeking stiffer punishment for informants aiding criminal elements.
Aliyu also commended security agencies operating in the state for their continued efforts in addressing insecurity in parts of Sokoto State.
In his remarks, the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, stressed the need for peaceful and rancour-free politics as political activities ahead of future elections begin to gather momentum.
The Sultan commended Governor Aliyu for executing what he described as people-oriented projects across the state.
“We are proud of you, our governor, and proud of what you are doing for our people,” the Sultan said.
He also praised the administration for promoting Islamic propagation through the construction of mosques and Islamiyya schools across the state.
The Sultan urged residents to continue supporting government policies and programmes for the development of the state.
The royal father later hosted Governor Aliyu, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, the Deputy Governor, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly and other members of the entourage to a special lunch.
