The Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed has approved the employment of 1,850 basic and senior secondary school teachers in the state to fill the gap of teacher shortages in sciences subjects and create fresh employment in the state.
Governor Ahmed, according to a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communication, on Wednesday disclosed that the decision is as a result of separate requests by the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and the Kwara State Teaching Service Commission (TSC), He said that the two organizations based their requests on existing teacher shortages in the state, especially in English Language and Science subjects.
According to the statement, Governor Ahmed approved the recruitment of 1500 SUBEB teachers and 350 Senior Secondary School teachers.
There has been persistent need for more teachers despite recent interventions by the state government through its Kwara State Youth Empowerment Program (KWAYEP) and the federal governments NPower Scheme, prompting the state government to grant the fresh approval for employment.
Governor Ahmed also directed SUBEB and TSC to advertise the positions in the media and ensure that due process is followed in the recruitment while ensuring spread across the 193 wards in the state.
