Adamawa APC, Labour Party candidate trade words over primary election credibility

The Adamawa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected allegations of irregularities raised by Labour Party senatorial candidate Peter Fwa, insisting that its primary elections were conducted transparently and in line with democratic principles.
Fwa, who recently emerged as the Labour Party candidate for Adamawa South Senatorial District, accused the APC of lacking internal democracy and fairness, saying the situation forced him to leave the party after nearly a decade of membership.
Speaking with journalists in Yola on Monday, Fwa alleged that the APC’s candidate selection process in Adamawa State was marred by inconsistencies and manipulation.
According to him, some aspirants who purchased governorship nomination forms were allegedly reassigned to senatorial positions, while others seeking Senate seats were announced as House of Representatives candidates.
He argued that such developments undermined the credibility of the party’s primary process and convinced him that his political ambition could not thrive within the APC.
“I resigned from APC, which I have been a member of the party for about 10 years, before I discovered that the leaders of the party were not ready to follow the rules of democracy, which includes fairness, transparency and level playing grounds for all participants,” Fwa said.
The Labour Party candidate, however, expressed confidence in his chances of winning the Adamawa South Senate seat in the 2027 general election, citing what he described as strong grassroots support.
Fwa is expected to face stiff competition from former APC senator Binos Dauda Yaroe, who has since moved to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and APC candidate Felix Tangwami.
Responding to the allegations, APC spokesman Victor Dogo dismissed Fwa’s claims as unfounded and politically motivated.
Dogo maintained that the party conducted its primaries openly, with media organisations present to monitor the process and voters lining up to choose their preferred candidates.
“We conducted primaries openly; the media covered the exercise, people lined up to vote their preferred candidates, so where is the injustice?” he said.
The APC spokesman further challenged rival political parties to provide evidence that their own primaries were conducted with similar levels of openness and transparency.
The disagreement highlights the growing political tensions in Adamawa State as parties reposition and prepare for the 2027 elections.
