Deputy President of the Senate, , has welcomed the return of Kano State lawmaker, to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the move as a significant gain for the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Tomas, who represents Makoda State Constituency in the Kano State House of Assembly, announced his decision to leave the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and rejoin the APC during a visit to Barau’s residence in Abuja on Monday.
The lawmaker was accompanied by the Chairman of Makoda Local Government Area, Alhaji Isa Currency, and the Chairman of Dambatta Local Government Area, Alhaji Jamilu Abubakar Dambatta.
Reacting to the development, Barau said the return of the legislator reflected confidence in the APC’s vision and commitment to good governance.
According to the Deputy Senate President, the decision would further strengthen the party’s structure in Kano North Senatorial District and reinforce its political influence across Kano State.
“Today, I had the honour of receiving back Hon. Muhammad Ahmad Tomas, member of the Kano State House of Assembly representing Makoda State Constituency, to our great party, the All Progressives Congress, from the Nigeria Democratic Congress,” Barau said.
He noted that Tomas’ return demonstrated foresight and a desire to align with a platform focused on development and progress.
Barau assured the returning lawmaker of equal opportunities within the party and urged members to remain united as preparations for future electoral contests gather momentum.
The Deputy Senate President stressed that unity and cooperation among party stakeholders would be critical to the APC’s success in Kano State and across the country.
He expressed confidence that the party would continue to expand its support base through inclusive leadership and effective governance.
“Together, we will continue to work tirelessly for the growth and success of our party, Kano North Senatorial District, Kano State and Nigeria as a whole,” he stated.
The latest defection adds to the ongoing political realignments in Kano State, where parties are intensifying efforts to consolidate support ahead of the 2027 elections.
