FRSC enlightens motorists on Ebola

Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Kaduna State Command has launched a massive campaign to sensitize motorists and commuters on the dangers of the Ebola virus and the need for them to avoid overcrowded vehicles.

Speaking during the occasion, the Sector Commander of the Command, Olu Mike Olagunju said it is necessary to avoid crowded vehicles since the disease is majorly contracted through body contact.

Olagunju who led men of the command to the central motor park, Kawo, Kaduna, where the sensitization programme took place added that each motorist was expected to take the campaign serious by extending same to their communities.

“There is a national issue called Ebola disease. And we are made to understand that the disease has to do with body contact, especially sweat and other bodily fluids. So we felt it was necessary in order to improve on our safety campaigns, to come down to our people who are into transportation business so that all of us will be better for it.” Responding, the chairman, National Union of Road Transport Workers  (NURTW), Taxi branch, Central Motor Park, Kawo, Kaduna, Alhaji Adamu Mohammed Abaji described the visit as timely, saying the sensitization would go a long way in making his people believe the reality of EVD.

He however urged FRSC to replace broken road signs in the state to make the road safer especially as the ember months emerges.

Earlier, the new Assistant Corps Mashal in charge of zone 1 comprising Kaduna, Katsina, Kano and Jigawa states, Victor Nwokolo, during his maiden parade to the sector command said the accident rate in the zone has reduced drastically in recent times when compared to what was obtainable previously.
