Kaduna: 150 medical personnel undergo skills training

The Industrial Training Fund (ITF) on Monday commenced training for about 150 doctors, nurses, laboratory scientists, pharmacists and attendants of the St. Gerard’s Catholic Hospital Kaduna on performance and productivity improvement as part of measures to further boost their capacities and improve health care service delivery to the society.

Declaring the training open, Kaduna state commissioner for health, Dr. Joseph Dogo Thot, who was represented at the occasion by Pharmacist John Magaji from the ministry said, the training was not only necessary but timely.

Dr. Thot said training and re training is very necessary in order to be well informed about the modern health challenges and ways to tackle them, adding that the government is very proud of the hospital in the way and manner it carries out its activities particularly in collaborating with the state government at periods of crisis. He assured of the government’s readiness at all times to assist the hospital in any way possible to further improve on their services to humanity.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Director General of ITF, Dr Juliet Chukas Onaeko noted that the hospital industry occupies a vintage position in the development of any nation, noting with nostalgia the concern about capital flight associated with increasing exodus of sick people in the country to Asia, and Europe in search of Medicare.

The Director-General, who was represented by Mr. Adamu Gagare, said ITF considers the training program not as an end in itself, but the beginning of a journey to excellence in the health sector.

Speaking, the Hospital Administrator, Reverend Sister Beatrice Danladi said the hospital management have identified the need for training of its staff and stressed that the training is to further build capacity of staff in the area of performance and productivity improvement to enable them deliver more effective and efficient service to their clients.
