The President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Chris Giwa, has categorically told House of Representatives Committee on Sports that his election stands and remains valid.

Giwa told the committee that his election followed the declaration by the congress from 2013, which they chose August 26 for elections into the NFF board.

“The congress of 2013 chose August 26 as the date for the elective congress and the same congress didn’t change the date,” he told the committee.

Giwa also said the Aminu Maigari faction got so many things wrong, chiefly among them being the walk-out protest they staged following Maigari’s arrest.

“They (Maigari’s faction) walked out of the venue chosen for the elections and held a meeting elsewhere which they called a congress. But that cannot happen because the congress did not change the venue.”

Giwa also accused the Maigari faction of trying to extend the previous board’s tenure beyond its expiry date, contrary to the position of the congress.

“They tried to extend Maigari’s tenure till December without regard to the resolution of the congress of 2013.

“But we held elections as prescribed by the congress of 2013 and even if they wanted to postpone it, they would have raised that agenda during the congress but instead they walked out,” he told the House.
