Police declare readiness for Kano bye-elections

The Kano state Police command has expressed readiness for the bye-election for the Dawakin-Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency in Kano State.
Peoples Daily reports that the by-election, scheduled to be conducted on 20th June, follows the recent death of the lawmaker representing the constituency, Hassan Danjuma.
Addressing journalists shortly after stakeholders meeting that include Police and other security agencies and party representations in Kano on Tuesday, the state’s Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori said all measures are put in place to ensure peaceful conduct of the exercise.
Represented by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operation,DCP Lawan Mani, Bakori said the police command and its sister agencies would make sure the election is violent free.
“The most important thing in election is to make a robust provision. The INEC has done its provision of election materials.
“Now it is our turn to make adequate security provisions to ensure hitch-free election and we have done that,” the DCP said.
He said all the security agencies are on ground and working to ensure peaceful exercise.
Mani also stated that there would be restriction of movement within the two local governments to allow for hitch-free election.
In his. Remarks, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Ambassador Abdu Zango expressed satisfaction about the security preparation as discussed during the meeting.
He also. explained that Warawa has 15 registration areas, 303 polling units, and 162,445 registered voters, while Dawakin Kudu also has 15 registration areas, 143 polling units, and 75,623 registered voters.
The REC disclosed that INEC officials had already conducted an assessment visit to the two local government areas and expressed satisfaction with the level of preparedness for the exercise.
Zango also revealed that the commission engage more than 2,000 personnel as ad hoc staff for the by-election.
He further disclosed that non-sensitive materials had already been deployed to the polling areas, adding that the commission was holding meetings with stakeholders, politicians, and security agencies to ensure the peaceful conduct of the exercise.
Zango also thanked the Police and sister security agencies for their cooperationv assuring that the election would be hitch-free.
