The Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has not used the executive branch to oppress other arms of government, describing him as a consummate democrat with courage and conviction.
In a democracy message on Friday, Governor Kefas hailed democracy as the best form of government despite the challenges confronting it.
He noted that Nigeria’s democracy has been tested by adverse political weather across the decades, yet it has survived and grown more resilient.
Scoring President Tinubu high on democratic credentials, Kefas said the president has upheld high democratic ideals against all odds and played leading roles in nurturing Nigeria’s democracy.
He admonished Nigerians to continue working together to advance the frontiers of democracy, emphasizing citizens’ participation in keeping the rule of law sacrosanct.
Kefas stressed that citizens must know and value their roles in the social contract entered into through the ballot, noting that the right to vote is one they must continue to protect and cherish with all sense of responsibility.
Governor Kefas predicted that Nigeria’s democracy will continue to be strong due to adherence to constitutional governance by all levers of power.
“Democracy is still the best form of government, the separation of powers, an independent judiciary, and a free press remain the bedrock of a democratic society.
“Their labour and dreams shall not be in vain. Our country today stands as a testimony to their legendary sacrifices,” he said.
