The Rector of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, Prof. Salihu Sanusi Avidime, has called for stronger collaboration among education stakeholders in the North Central to accelerate the development of tertiary institutions in the region.
Avidime made the call at the 2026 Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) Town Hall Meeting held at the Banquet Hall of the Kogi State Government House, Lokoja.
The meeting, convened by the TETFund Board of Trustees member representing the North Central geopolitical zone, Dr Hassan Abdulrahman Ocholi, was themed, “The Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Its Impact on Tertiary Institutions in the North Central Geopolitical Zone.”
The rector commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as strategic investments in the education sector under the Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly through sustained TETFund interventions.
He said the interventions had provided critical support for infrastructure, academic development and institutional capacity building, describing them as vital investments in Nigeria’s human capital development.
Avidime also commended Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, for his commitment to education and support for tertiary institutions in the state.
According to him, stronger collaboration between the state government and federal education agencies has created opportunities for institutional development and improved learning environments.
He described the town hall meeting as timely and strategic, noting that it provided stakeholders with an opportunity to identify challenges, explore opportunities and develop practical solutions to improve tertiary education across the region.
Avidime said the platform could facilitate targeted infrastructure development, strengthen academic programmes and enable institutions in the North Central to maximise federal interventions.
He pledged the readiness of Kogi State Polytechnic to collaborate with TETFund, the Kogi State Government and other tertiary institutions in advancing the objectives of the initiative.
The rector stressed that sustained collaboration, knowledge sharing and collective advocacy remained critical to achieving improved infrastructure, academic excellence and institutional growth.
The meeting was attended by government officials, traditional rulers and heads of tertiary institutions from the six North Central states and the Federal Capital Territory.
