Fresh facts have emerged that the former Adamawa state secretary to the state government, SSG, Mr. Kobis Ari Thimnu may risk jail sentence, as the Justice Bobbo Umar Judicial Panel investigating the former administration of Governor Murtala Nyako between 2007 and 2014 issued a warrant of arrest on him.
The former SSG is wanted by the panel to clarify allegations of diversion of revenue from Adamawa Plaza in Abuja, allegedly remitted to his office instead of the state Board of Internal Revenue.
Our correspondent reports that, at Tuesday’s sitting, the panel had directed the Counsel to the former SSG, Barrister Oladele Olalalo to bring his client on or before the close of the panel’s Wednesday’s sitting. However, at the sitting, the panel had to delay its sitting till late night to give room for the former SSG or his counsel to appear before it.
After waiting in vain for the former SSG and his Counsel, Counsel to the panel, Barrister Samuel Kyenson prayed the four-men panel that it should apply the powers vested on it by section 1-2 of the Commission of Inquiry Law of Adamawa State 1997.
But in his submission, the Counsel to the panel explained that the Commission deserved to be respected and its order be complied with by any witness, no matter his status or position in the society.
In his remarks, chairman of the Panel, Justice Bobbo Umar ordered the arrest of the former SSG ‘’ for his failure to appear before the panel without cogent reasons’’
Justice Umar declared that the panel had given the former SSG ample time to honour its invitation, but he remained adamant.
Earlier, the chairman of the Board of Internal Revenue, Alhaji Abubakar Tuta leveled the allegation against the former SSG when he testified before the panel.
It will be recalled that the counsel to the former SSG, Barrister Oladele Olalalo, in one of his appearances for the former scribe had tendered a sworn-affidavit, dragging the panel before an Abuja High Court to compel the tribunal from ordering the former SSG to appear before it.
The tribunal had however turned down the affidavit.
