Former Kogi State Deputy Governor, Chief Edward Onoja, has mourned the death of former Governor Ibrahim Idris, who died at the age of 77.
Onoja, who is also a board member of the South East Development Commission, described the death of the former governor as a significant loss to Kogi State.
He expressed his condolences in a statement shared on his social media handle on Monday.
Onoja said Idris’ death marked “the end of a significant chapter in the political history” of the state.
He said, “I received with sadness the news of the passing of His Excellency, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, former Governor of Kogi State, at the age of 77.”
The former deputy governor said Idris contributed to the development of Kogi State and Nigeria during his years as governor and public servant.
“His passing marks the end of a significant chapter in the political history of our dear state.
“As a former governor and public servant, he made his contributions to the development and affairs of Kogi State and Nigeria,”Onoja said.
Onoja condoled with the Idris family, his associates and the people of Kogi State over the loss.
“On behalf of my family, I extend my sincere condolences to the Idris family, his associates and the people of Kogi State over this loss,” he said.
He prayed to Allah to forgive the former governor’s shortcomings, accept his good deeds and grant him Al Jannatul Firdaus.
Onoja also prayed for strength and fortitude for the bereaved family to cope with the loss.
“May his soul rest in peace,” he added.
