Nigeria High Commissioner to Jamaica, Ambassador Olatokunboh Kamson, yesterday formally joined the race for the Lagos State PDP governorship candidate.
Kamson’s formal declaration will also bring to about 15, the number of aspirants currently seeking the PDP governorship candidate slot.
Addressing supporters and members of the state executives at the party’s secretariat in Ikeja, Kamson popularly called TKO, said:”I started this race in 2003. When i started I knew it would be a long distance race.
“Thank God am still in the race but at the end I will be victorious” he said.
He said that if he emerges as governor of Lagos state, he would make the state independent of federal allocations.
“I have served as head of World Bank Assisted Projects in Lagos State from 1993 to 1996 and have what it takes to generate enough funds to run the state and bring succour to the down trodden.
“If I win, Lagos will be restructured to enable it create wealth.
“Lagos state and its people are not able to create wealth because of lack of funds for entrepreneurship, I will guarantee loans for private business development” he said.
Kamson also said that he would create mass transit facilities to take care of the traffic sufferings of residents.
“Life span in Lagos has become short due to traffic congestion that force people to leave their homes for work at 4/5am and get home very late” he said.
On the controversy over the law restricting commercial motorcycle riders in the state, Kamson said that he would revoke it.
He debunked allegations of preferred candidates by PDP insisting that the party had never endorsed any candidate and had always gone for primaries.
He disclosed that he would dissolve the current local government council leadership in Lagos state once elected, and conduct fresh polls.
“The tenure of the existing councils has expired making them illegal” he said.
He however congratulated the leadership of the party in the state for being able to bring the internal crisis within it to an end.
Earlier in his opening remarks, the state chairman of the party, Chief Tunji Shelle said that Kamson had contributed a lot to the growth of the party in the state.
