Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo’s alleged controversial push for a second term in office may have suffered a setback as thousands of Gombe residents were said to have withdrawn their earlier support for the incumbent governor ahead of the 2015 general elections.

Leaders and members of the Youth Vanguard for Change (YVG) said they have decided to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state having realized that the continued support for the governor is not in the interest of the people.

According to Malam Ibrahim Mohammed, the leader of the YVG, a conglomeration of other political groups, Governor Dankwambo is not suitable to remain in office in 2015  with supporters therefore  deciding to pull out of the governor’s  campaign after due consultations with  members across the state.

According to YVG, Governor Dankwambo has continued to remain insensitive to the plight of the ordinary man in the state which has resulted in widespread poverty with the economy  defying all solutions introduced by his administration, with no concrete road map regarding the transformation of the state from the social decay and extreme dilapidation in addition to excessive humiliation of citizens without pity.“Since assumption of office, the governor has shown and continued to show that he is saddled with a task that he is ill prepared for,  and therefore lacks the  courage of leadership that the state deserves” the group stated.

The group, while lamenting the hardship prevailing in the state said it is not impressed by the measures taken so far to alleviate the plight of the people.

“We have decided to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) under the leadership of Sen. Danjuma Goje whom we believed will bring change in 2015 if the mandate is given to APC in the forth coming general elections” YVG stated. The group alleged that even with the earlier necessary measures taken to ensure that the governor is re-elected for second term in office to complete his assignment but, to their total dismay, the governor has failed to see their impact and equally  decided not to carry anyone along in his programmes  even as  the electorate who voted him into power are complaining bitterly for not been recognized in the present administration.
