The Chairman of the Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB), Hon. Kasim Mohammed Kasim, has disclosed that the Nasarawa State Government spends about N8 billion annually on the construction and renovation of public primary school infrastructure across the state.

Speaking with journalists in Lafia on Monday, Kasim expressed concern over the rising cases of vandalism in public primary schools, describing the destruction of educational facilities as a threat to the future of children and the state’s education system.

According to him, despite the government’s huge investment in improving learning facilities, some individuals continue to vandalise school buildings by removing roofing sheets, plastic chairs and other valuable items.

He warned that the government would no longer tolerate such acts, stressing that anyone found responsible would face the full weight of the law.

“Government builds these structures to provide a conducive learning environment for pupils, but some people remove roofing sheets and cart away plastic chairs, leaving the schools empty. Such actions are destroying the education system in the state,” he said.

Kasim called on communities across Nasarawa State to take ownership of public schools by safeguarding educational facilities against vandals and other criminal activities.
