Jonathan Denies ₦500bn Plot to Challenge Obi in 2027

Date:

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has dismissed as false claims that he was offered ₦500 billion to contest the 2027 presidential election against Peter Obi to split votes in the South-South.
In a statement issued  by his Special Adviser on Media, Ikechukwu Eze, Jonathan described the report as fabricated and intended to drag him into unnecessary political controversy.
He said the story, published by a little-known website, falsely attributed the claim to him without providing any evidence.
According to the statement, the publication failed to meet basic journalistic standards, as it did not state where or when Jonathan allegedly made the remarks, identify who supposedly offered the money, or name any witness to the alleged conversation.
“The report is a fabricated story aimed at associating me with claims I never made,” the statement quoted Jonathan as saying.
The former president said the publication bore the hallmarks of fake news designed to mislead the public and fuel political tension ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He urged Nigerians to disregard the report and avoid sharing unverified information, stressing that he never made the statements attributed to him.
