EFCC hands over forfeited items to ministry of education

Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) Ola Olukoyede, Tuesday, handover to the Federal Ministry of Education, recovered proceeds of crime duly forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria.

The items handed over the Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa were 501 Double Step Bunks, 939 Mattresses and 12 Wooden Beds/Mattresses.

According to the anti-garft agency, the items were recovered in a special operation code named Operation Eagle Flush, the single largest cybercrime operation by the Commission.

The EFCC boss, in a press briefing in Abuja, informed that during the operation,
3. 792 suspects, including 193 foreign nationals were arrested, investigated, convicted and deported back to their various countries of origin.

Olukoyede said the decision to hand over these facilities to the Federal Ministry of Education is in line with the government’s determination to improve the quality of education in Nigeria.

He emphasized that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu made this decision fully conscious of the fact that children and the youth are the greatest victims of corruption and should naturally be the first beneficiaries of the proceeds of such a crime.

He expressed that in line with the Provisions of the Proceeds of Crimes Act and the approval of the Federal Government, the gesture is a continuation of support to the educational sector, including N50billion of recovered funds to the Students Loan Scheme and conversion of Nok University to a Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, Kaduna State.

These gestures, he said widen the window of opportunity for education and social progression for our youths.

Concluding, he assured that the commission will continue to work diligently to recover the proceeds of crime and ensure that such recoveries are judiciously, transparently, and effectively deployed for the benefit of all Nigerians.
