President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians and the family of the late former President, Muhammadu Buhari, that his administration will continue to uphold the values and legacies the former Nigerian leader stood for.
Tinubu gave the assurance on Monday through Vice President Kashim Shettima at the launch of a commemorative book marking one year since Buhari’s passing.
According to the President, Buhari’s legacy of integrity, discipline, respect for the rule of law and commitment to nation-building will continue to inspire generations of Nigerians.
Shettima described the late President as a courageous statesman whose life was defined by patriotism, selflessness and unwavering dedication to public service.
He said, “He had humility, and he exercised it with tolerance. He served with courage. He served with conviction and with a patriotism that never asked what the nation could do for him, but what he could do for the nation.”
Reflecting on Buhari’s leadership journey, Shettima noted that the late President evolved from a military ruler into a committed democrat and defender of constitutional governance.
“From his days as a military leader to his transformation into a democrat and a determined defender of constitutional order, he embodied the spirit of change and nation-building,” he said.
The Vice President added that Buhari belonged to the rare class of leaders who earned the trust of the people through character rather than the influence of office.
“Power often changes those who wield it, but President Buhari remained a man of rare character. The respect he commanded was not given because of his office; it was earned through a lifetime of sacrifice, discipline and integrity,” Shettima said.
He added, “He led by the example of his own life and departed leaving behind an enduring legacy that continues to guide and inspire us. We honour him in death just as we honoured him in life, without embellishment, because his life speaks for itself.”
