Senegal’s women’s national team wrapped up their two-match international friendly series against Egypt with a narrow 1-0 defeat on Saturday in Cairo, concluding their preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The Lionesses had begun the series on a positive note, securing a 1-0 victory in the first meeting on Wednesday courtesy of a Ndeye Nguenar Ndiaye penalty.
The win marked a return to form after consecutive defeats to Nigeria in friendly matches last June.
However, Mame Moussa Cissé’s side could not replicate that performance in the second encounter, as Egypt edged the contest by a lone goal to level the two-match series.
The friendlies provided the Senegalese coaching staff with a valuable opportunity to evaluate the squad and fine-tune tactics ahead of the continent’s premier women’s football tournament.
The 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations will take place in Morocco from July 25 to August 16, following the postponement of the tournament from its original March schedule.
Senegal will be making their third consecutive WAFCON appearance and fifth overall. The Lionesses have been drawn in Group A, where they will face hosts Morocco, Algeria, and Kenya.
After reaching the quarter-finals at the previous edition, Senegal will be aiming to surpass that achievement as they seek a deeper run in Morocco.
