The Kwara State All Progressives Congress (APC) Reconciliation Committee has appealed to the party’s G15 Group to join ongoing peace efforts as it intensifies moves to resolve internal disagreements ahead of the 2027 elections.
Chairman of the committee, retired Col. Abdulwahab Lawal, made the appeal in an interview with Leadership, saying the committee had made considerable progress after holding consultations with key stakeholders across the state.
Lawal disclosed that the committee had engaged state House of Assembly aspirants, elders, local government party executives and other stakeholders, describing the discussions as frank, productive and encouraging.
According to him, the consultations demonstrated a shared commitment among party members to preserve the unity of the ruling party in Kwara State.
He said the committee had been updating the state APC chairman on its activities and expressed satisfaction with the leadership’s support for the reconciliation process.
As part of efforts to create a peaceful atmosphere for dialogue, Lawal urged party members to refrain from inflammatory public statements or actions capable of deepening divisions within the APC.
He also called for a temporary suspension of disciplinary actions against members while the reconciliation process continues, stressing that legitimate party activities should proceed in good faith and mutual respect.
The committee chairman commended party members for their patience and contributions, noting that memoranda and position papers submitted had strengthened its mediation efforts.
Lawal particularly praised governorship aspirants Engr. Femi Sanni and Prof. Wale Suleiman for separately appealing to supporters to remain calm and embrace reconciliation.
He also acknowledged the APC Unity Group in Abuja for mobilizing stakeholders in support of the peace initiative.
Extending what he described as an olive branch to the G15 Group, Lawal urged all APC members to support efforts aimed at restoring lasting peace, unity and harmony within the party.
