Truck driver docked over theft of N14m goods

A 27-year-old truck driver, Wasiu Bello, on Wednesday appeared before an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court, in Lagos, over theft of N14 million goods belonging to his employer.

Bello is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

The prosecutor, Insp. Paul Inhedu, told the court that the accused and three others at large stole 1,200 bags of BUA sugar belonging to Al-amin Abubakar.

Inhedu said that the men committed the offences on Sept. 20, 2013.

According to him, the accused and three others were loaded with a truck filled with Bua sugar to deliver to Nestle Company, Agbara Estate.

He said that the truck driver diverted the goods, sold all the sugar and kept the money for personal use.

The prosecutor said the offences committed contravened sections 409 and 278 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos state, 2011.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.

The Magistrate, Mrs. M.B. Folami granted the accused bail in the sum of N5 million with two sureties in like sum.

Folami adjourned the case to Sept. 29 for trial. (NAN)
