Salesgirl appears in court for alleged theft of N3m

A salesgirl, Chinyere Ezeh, on Wednesday appeared before a Shomolu Magistrates’ Court, and charged with theft of three million naira cash belonging to her employer.

Ezeh, who resides at Idi-Oro, Mushin, Lagos, pleaded not guilty to a six-count charge.

Prosecutor Akinlabi Adegoke told the court that the accused was an employee of Raymond Okafor, and worked as a salesgirl at his shop located at Ojumoye market, Mushin.

“Ezeh worked as Okafor’s salesgirl and was required to remit money from sales to the company account.

The accused did not remit N3, 031,000 to the company’s account on Feb. 2, Feb. 26, March17, March 19, April 15, May 30 and June 29.

“She stole N230,000, N125,000, N220,000, N200,000, N256,500 and two million naira on the respective dates,’’ the prosecutor said.

According to him, the accused was arrested after routine checks and balances were carried out by her employer, where it was discovered she had converted the money into her personal use.

Adegoke said the offences contravened Sections 285 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2011, which attracts three years imprisonment on conviction.

The Magistrate, Mrs. Bola Osunsanmi, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case till Oct. 7 for mention. (NAN)
