The campaign organisation of Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar has distanced itself from reports suggesting that his supporters have accepted the outcome of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary in Bauchi State and pledged support for another aspirant.
In a statement issued by Alkasim Abdulkadir, Special Assistant on Media to Ambassador Tuggar, the campaign described the reports as false, insisting they do not reflect the official position of the former governorship aspirant or his supporters.
The organisation said the individuals who recently addressed the media lacked the mandate to speak on behalf of Ambassador Tuggar, stressing that their comments were personal opinions and should not be attributed to the campaign.
The statement further maintained that no valid APC governorship primary election was conducted in Bauchi State, arguing that the purported consensus process was neither preceded by broad consultations nor based on the voluntary agreement of all aspirants and key stakeholders.
According to the campaign, the process failed to meet the standards of internal party democracy and, therefore, cannot be regarded as a legitimate consensus.
Despite its objections to the outcome, the campaign reaffirmed Ambassador Tuggar’s commitment to the APC, its constitution and the rule of law.
It also urged media organizations to distinguish between statements issued by unofficial groups and the recognized position of the Tuggar Campaign Organisation.
The campaign added that Ambassador Tuggar enjoys support across all 20 local government areas of Bauchi State and that such a broad political base cannot be represented by what it described as a handful of individuals.
