Although the African Women Championship (AWC) tagged Namibia 2014 is still a month away, preparations are already in top gear to make sure that the Super Falcons of Nigeria not only reclaim their continental glory but also restore their bragging rights in Africa as football superpower.

Speaking with our correspondent in a telephone interview in Abuja, the chairman of Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL), Mrs. Dilichukwu Onyedinma said all hands are on deck to make sure that the national women team rules the continent again following their underperformance at the last edition in Equatorial Guinea where the Falcons came fourth. “We are leaving no stone unturned to have a successful outing in Namibia. Since they qualified for the AWC, most of these girls have been together. They train together and have been in camp perfecting their skills for the coming championship. Although they are released to go and play for their clubs in the league, we are keeping close tabs on them and we are sure that they will make the nation proud again in Namibia,” she said.

The female league boss added that though 30 players have been called to the camp by Coach Edwin Okon, it is left to the coach to choose the best among the players when the final list is released early next month. The AWC runs from October 11 to 25, 2014. The Falcons are six time winners of the championship, a record in the continent.
