The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has urged the Nigeria Police Force to suspend the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, (CP) Tijani, over his alleged participation in a political event linked to supporters of President Bola Tinubu.
In a statement released through its official social media platforms, the opposition party accused the police commissioner of compromising the neutrality expected of law enforcement officers ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The demand followed the circulation of a video purportedly showing the police commissioner attending an event organised by the Lagos State chapter of the City Boy Movement, a group widely associated with President Tinubu’s supporters.
According to the NDC, the commissioner’s appearance at the gathering has raised concerns about his ability to oversee election security in an impartial manner.
The party called on the Police High Command to immediately investigate the incident and impose disciplinary measures, including the suspension of the commissioner, if the allegations are established.
It also urged the Nigeria Police Force to publicly reaffirm its commitment to political neutrality and ensure equal protection for all political parties and their supporters throughout the 2027 electioneering period.
he NDC further insisted that security agencies must guarantee the safety of every voter regardless of political affiliation, religion or ethnicity, while also demanding that the Lagos police commissioner resign over what it described as conduct unbecoming of his office.
