A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sokoto State and the newly turbaned Dallatun Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Abdulkadir Dan’iya, has described journalists as an indispensable part of any society that is desirous of sustainable development, peace and stability.
Dan’iya stated this at the weekend in Sokoto when members of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Sokoto State Council, paid him a congratulatory visit over his recent conferment of the revered traditional title of Dallatun Sokoto by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar.
The foremost philanthropist and business mogul commended members of the chapel and journalists across the state for discharging their duties diligently, piously, patriotically and ethically.
He acknowledged the invaluable role the chapel has been playing in bolstering the socio-economic development of Sokoto State, as well as in ensuring peace, unity and cohesion.
According to him, journalists have remained active partners with the administration of Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto.
“Such sustained support and solidarity is highly crucial in facilitating the success of all the programmes and policies of the APC-led administration in the state, whose penchant for accountability, transparency and the provision of dividends of democracy is unparalleled,” Dan’iya said.
The Dallatun Sokoto noted that he has been observing the role of the chapel in boosting the development of the state for the past few decades, and pledged sustained partnership with the chapel.
While commending the Sultan of Sokoto for the confidence reposed in him, Dan’iya promised that the new title would spur him to ramp up his philanthropic gestures and all activities that will help to propel Sokoto State and Nigeria to greater heights.
Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel in Sokoto State, Mr Ankeli Emmanuel, said the visit was to congratulate him on his new traditional of Dallatun Sokoto, and assure him of their support.
Mr Emmanuel said members of the chapel will never waiver in their commitment to supporting the development trajectory of the state and will continue to discharge their constitutional responsibilities ethically and patriotically.
