Dangote Cement Plc (Obajana Plant) has expanded its social investment initiatives by distributing educational materials to public school pupils in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital.
The distribution follows recent interventions in host communities such as Oyo, Iwaa, Obajana, and Apata, where pupils received similar support.
The company also recently commissioned a multi-million-naira hospital in Obajana, adding to previous healthcare projects in Iwaa and Oyo.
Speaking on the initiative, Ademola Adeyemi, General Manager of the Social Performance Department at Dangote Cement Obajana, highlighted the intervention as part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy.
“While the company has invested billions of naira over the years in host community development ranging from empowerment schemes and road construction to potable water projects.
“We remain committed to expanding these interventions,” Adeyemi noted.
He added that Dangote’s CSR programs are aligned with government development priorities.
According to a company statement, the donated items including school bags, exercise books, writing materials, and water bottles were selected following a needs assessment.
The survey revealed that many pupils lacked basic supplies, with several attending school without bags or carrying books by hand.
Expressing gratitude on behalf of the beneficiaries, Abubakar Sanni, Head Teacher of UBE LGEA School, St. Luke Model II in Lokoja, commended Dangote Group President Aliko Dangote for extending support beyond immediate catchment areas to the state capital.
Also, school managers, parents, and community leaders also appreciated the timely intervention, noting its positive impact on the pupils’ readiness for the upcoming academic session.
