The National Democratic Congress (NDC) House of Representatives candidate for Eti-Osa Federal Constituency, Adedayo Ekong, has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure the 2027 general elections are conducted in a transparent, impartial and credible manner.
Ekong, who also serves as the NDC National Vice Chairman (South-West), said on Monday that the electoral umpire must uphold its constitutional responsibility by ensuring that every valid vote counts and accurately reflects the wishes of Nigerians.
According to her, the credibility of the electoral process will play a decisive role in sustaining public confidence in the country’s democratic system.
She stressed that election officials must maintain the highest level of professionalism, insisting that only results that genuinely reflect votes cast can strengthen citizens’ trust in democracy.
Ekong also cautioned that any election perceived as lacking fairness or transparency could erode confidence in Nigeria’s electoral system and threaten peaceful outcomes.
She further called on security agencies to remain neutral and professional throughout the electoral process, while urging political parties and their supporters to conduct themselves peacefully before, during and after the polls.
The NDC chieftain described leadership as a call to service, encouraging elected officials to maintain regular engagement with their constituents to ensure their needs remain a priority.
She also appealed to eligible Nigerians to participate actively in the 2027 elections by voting without fear or intimidation, expressing confidence that credible polls would deepen democratic governance and promote national development.
