2027: Accord urges INEC, security agencies to ensure credible gov’ship poll

The Accord Party has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to remain neutral and impartial during the August 15, 2026, Osun State governorship election, describing the poll as a major test of Nigeria’s electoral system ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued by its National Chairman, Barr. Maxwell Mgbudem, the party stressed that all stakeholders must work to guarantee a free, fair, transparent and credible election in which every valid vote counts.
Accord urged INEC to ensure that all electoral materials and technologies are properly tested before the exercise to avoid operational failures, noting that the credibility of the electoral body is at stake.
The party also appealed to security agencies to discharge their constitutional responsibilities professionally before, during and after the election by providing a level playing field for all participating political parties.
Addressing voters, Accord warned against vote buying and other forms of electoral inducement, urging citizens not to exchange their future for temporary financial benefits.
According to the party, protecting the sanctity of the ballot is essential to strengthening public confidence in Nigeria’s democratic process.
Accord expressed optimism about its chances in the election, claiming it enjoys widespread support from voters who favour the continuation of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s leadership.
The party maintained that the conduct of the Osun governorship election would serve as an important indicator of INEC’s preparedness for the 2027 general elections and urged the commission to seize the opportunity to reinforce public confidence in the electoral process.
