No fewer than five people were reportedly killed in an assault launched yesterday in Mbar community of Bokkos local government area of Plateau State.
The early morning attack, which was launched by suspected Fulani herdsmen, had left a 40 year old mother of two with her 3 years and 5 year-old children dead.
Community sources told Peoples Daily learnt that, apart from the five people killed, over 20 houses and farmlands were also set ablaze by the attackers
The Plateau State Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Solomon Maren, who hailed from the attacked area, described it as barbaric and uncalled for.
The commissioner further confirmed that five people were killed in the attack and that many others had been taken to the Plateau General Hospitalin Barkin Ladi and Bokkos LGA.
He alleged that “suspected herdsmen were fingered to be the brain behind the killings, because last week there was another attack that led to the death of two people in the area and one Fulani was caught in the act, “
The Special Task Force (STF) Media and Information Officer in the state, Captain Ikedichi Iweha was not available for response at press time.
