Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has announced the provision of food items and other essential commodities to 1,500 couples who benefited from the state government’s mass wedding programme, Auren Gata.
Yusuf made the announcement on Saturday at a reception organised for the couples at the Government House in Kano, which was attended by political leaders, traditional rulers, Islamic scholars and other dignitaries.
The governor said the support was designed to help cushion the economic challenges the newly married couples might face during the early stages of their marriages.
He urged the couples to build their marriages on patience, justice, mutual respect and understanding, stressing the importance of peaceful coexistence within their homes.
According to him, marriage is an act of worship and should be guided by the teachings of the Qur’an and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
Yusuf also encouraged the couples to respect one another, uphold fairness and apply the lessons learnt during their pre-marital counselling sessions.
He prayed for Allah’s blessings on the marriages and for the couples to be blessed with children who would contribute positively to their families, communities and society.
The governor expressed appreciation to traditional rulers, Islamic scholars, North-West governors and other stakeholders for their contributions to the success of the mass wedding programme.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Yusuf specifically thanked the Chairman of the Council of Emirs and the Emirs of Kano, Rano, Karaye and Gaya for their guidance, prayers and support.
He also appreciated Islamic scholars who travelled from different parts of Nigeria to attend the ceremony, describing their prayers and counsel as significant to the success of the programme.
The governor commended Katsina State Governor Umar Dikko Radda, Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi and Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris, as well as their representatives, for attending the occasion.
He further acknowledged the leadership and staff of the Kano State Hisbah Board, led by Commander-General Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, for their commitment to promoting moral values, peace and community wellbeing.
Yusuf also thanked members of the business community, diplomatic corps, civil society organisations, development partners and other guests for their presence and goodwill messages.
