An Osun State House of Assembly member, Kanmi Ajibola, has demanded the resignation of Senator Francis Fadahunsi from the National Assembly over alleged inflammatory remarks concerning members of the Accord Party ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
Ajibola, who represents Oriade State Constituency, gave the senator 30 days to resign, warning that failure to do so would lead to legal action.
The demand was contained in a letter signed by Ajibola’s solicitor, Ekene Amadi, and titled, “Resign now, you have a killer’s mind and lacking strength of character for public office representation.”
The letter, which was copied to President Bola Tinubu and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, accused Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East Senatorial District, of making threats against opposition supporters.
Ajibola alleged that the senator had threatened Accord members since October 2025, including claims that they would face arrest and alleged attacks following the 2026 governorship election.
He further alleged that several Accord members had been arrested or detained between June 1 and August 10, while some were allegedly killed.
The lawmaker also accused Fadahunsi of directing supporters to attack Accord members during political activities in Ilesa on August 11, four days before the governorship poll.
Ajibola said the alleged conduct amounted to a breach of Fadahunsi’s oath of office and questioned his suitability to continue representing Osun East in the Senate.
He recalled that both men previously belonged to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), claiming that he and other party members contributed to Fadahunsi’s electoral victories in the 2019 and 2023 elections before their political paths diverged.
While Fadahunsi has denied directing his supporters to kill Accord members, the senator maintained that his comments had been taken out of context.
Ajibola, however, insisted on his demand for Fadahunsi’s resignation within 30 days of receiving the letter and urged him to withdraw from future public service.
The lawmaker warned that failure to comply would result in legal proceedings against the senator.
The press conference was attended by local government chairmen, state executive members, Deputy Chairman Kunle Koya, State Secretary Ismail Abiola and other party officials.
