Retired soldier disarms motorcycle snatchers in Delta community

A retired soldier popularly called “old soldier”, Mr. Fidelis Erue, in Ika-South local government area has singlehandedly disengaged a gang of motorcycle snatchers operating within the post office axis of Agbor metropolis.

Fidelis, who was coming from Orogodo River’s neighborhood through Edeke Street by the right, was stopped by four men who tried to harass and dispossess him of his motorcycle.

According to Fidelis, an attempt by the men to intimidate him by claiming that they were retired force men failed to yield the financial settlement they expected from him.

He said that, as a retired soldier, he defended himself with proof of his I.D card.

The old soldier narrating his ordeal said that the gangsters became furious and seized his motorcycle, which one of them went away with, while two others disappeared.

He pointed out that he had no option, than to hold on to the fourth man, who was part of the gang.

Fidelis said that his firm grip on the suspect and the man’s subsequent struggle to liberate himself, attracted attention of the people who came to the scene.

He said as the mob heard his alleged “pathetic story” while the

suspect refused to speak, nor give his own version of the incident, making the crowd to ask the suspect to produce the motorcycle before he would be released.

Thirty minutes later, Fidelis’s motorcycle, which was stolen, was seen in the neighborhood, but the crowed was not deceived as they advised Fidelis to inspect the motorcycle to ascertain that it was his, before they allow the man to go.

Our correspondent reports that the suspected motorcycle snatcher after he was let off the hook by the crowed fled the area half naked as he had his shirt torn.
