Faith, character, courage needed to raise future leaders, stakeholders tell parents

Clergymen and youth speakers at the House of Purpose Ministry’s 2026 Children’s Convention in Kaduna have called on parents to deliberately instill moral discipline, spiritual foundation, and courage in their children to prepare them for future leadership.

The convention, themed “Kingdom Kids for Rulership,” was held at the ministry’s headquarters in Ungwan Sunday, Chikun Local Government Area.

The event featured Bible recitations, drama, choreography, and debates led by the church’s youth group, known as the Pearls of Purpose.

Delivering an exhortation titled “Character Before Crown for Kingdom Rulership,” Salvation Jerry, a youth representative drawing from 1 Samuel 16:7, emphasized that good character must be intentionally cultivated long before high positions or leadership roles are attained.

“Character is who we are and what we do when no one is watching us,” Salvation stated, outlining essential traits for young leaders, including truthfulness, obedience, dependability, fairness, respect for others, and a commitment to upright conduct.

Citing biblical examples such as Joseph, Daniel, Esther, Ruth, and the three Hebrew youths, she added that enduring influence is built on daily choices of integrity.

In his sermon, “Resetting Kingdom Kids Mentality for Rulership,” Senior Pastor Apostle Yakubu Yusuf highlighted the crucial role parents play in counteracting negative societal influences and building a solid spiritual foundation.

Referencing Romans 12:2 and Deuteronomy 6:6-7, Apostle Yusuf urged parents to actively guide their children’s development by speaking positively over their lives and monitoring the media and social environments shaping their minds.

“Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it,” Apostle Yusuf noted, citing Proverbs 22:6. He outlined key priorities for parents, including fostering faith, cultivating an excellent work ethic, encouraging a heart of service, and instilling the courage needed to stand by core values during difficult times.

To support spiritual growth at home, the clergyman recommended engaging children with structured Bible lessons, faith-based literature, interactive projects, and wholesome media.

The convention concluded with special prayers for the children and a call to action for parents and guardians to take active responsibility in raising disciplined, courageous leaders who will make a positive impact on society.
