Defence minister Musa accepts APC campaign role

Date:

The Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (retd.), has accepted his appointment as Secretary I of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 elections, promising that the political assignment will not affect his constitutional responsibilities.

Musa disclosed this on Monday in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Leah Katung-Babatunde, as the APC intensifies preparations for the 2027 general elections.

The minister said he would carry out his campaign council duties with diligence and administrative rigour while remaining focused on his responsibilities at the Ministry of Defence.

He said safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity and protecting the lives and property of citizens remained his “absolute and uncompromising” priority.

“National security remains our highest imperative,” Musa said.

He assured Nigerians that ongoing military operations, strategic reforms and inter-agency collaborations in the defence sector would continue without interruption.

“The resolve to uphold the mandate of the Ministry of Defence, protect our people, and drive Mr President’s vision for a safe and prosperous Nigeria remains firm and unshakeable,” he added.

Musa thanked President Bola Tinubu and the APC leadership for the confidence placed in him, describing the appointment as a “call to higher service.”

He also urged APC members and other Nigerians to remain united behind the Tinubu administration.

The minister expressed confidence that the APC would win the 2027 elections while delivering what he described as good governance and improved security.

His appointment has placed him in a partisan political role while he continues to oversee Nigeria’s defence architecture and military response to security challenges.

The development comes as political parties begin early mobilisation for the 2027 elections, with the ruling APC expected to intensify its nationwide campaign activities.
