The Jigawa State Executive Council has approved a series of low-key programs to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the state’s creation on August 27, 1991, under the military administration of General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida.
The decision was announced in a statement by the Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports, and Culture, Alhaji Sagir Musa Ahmed, following the council’s weekly meeting at the Government House in Dutse.
Council adopted recommendations from a committee chaired by Deputy Governor Engr. Aminu Usman to establish a permanent framework for future anniversary celebrations and a State Merit Awards system.
Also, interfaith and special prayers will be held across all Juma’at mosques, coordinated by the Forum of Juma’at Mosque Imams, Emirate Councils, and the Council of Ulamas under the supervision of the Secretary to the State Government.
The anniversary will serve as a platform to recognize the contributions of Jigawa’s founding fathers, past leaders, public servants, traditional rulers, and development partners.
The approved activities aim to reflect on Jigawa’s 35-year journey, celebrate key milestones, and inspire a renewed commitment to the state’s future growth and unity.
