Nigeria beat Ghana 3-2 (25-21, 21-25, 25-11, 11-25, 18-16) in the second Group C match at the 2026 African Senior Women’s Nations Volleyball Championship in Kenya.
Nigeria started strongly, taking the opening set 25-21 before Ghana responded with a 25-21 win in the second set to level the contest.
The ANOCA Zone 3 champions regained control in the third set, producing a dominant display to win 25-11 and move within one set of victory.
However, Ghana refused to surrender and forced the match into a deciding fifth set after claiming the fourth set 25-11.
With both sides battling for supremacy, the final set turned into a tense contest. Nigeria eventually held their nerve to edge Ghana 18-16 and secure the crucial 3-2 victory.
Speaking after the win, head coach of Nigeria women’s team, Elishama Elam praised the fighting spirit of the team.
Elam explained that the Ghanaians gave a good fight but Nigeria were the better side.
He said: “This win means a lot to the entire team because we need to win and stand a chance of progressing to the next stage.
“The girls played with their heart and I expect them to do same in the next match against Cameroon”.
Nigeria will face Cameroon in their last group stage match on Thursday, August 27.
