The All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on the Inspector-General of Police to investigate and prosecute Abayomi Hunye over allegations that he is falsely presenting himself as the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 Ogun State election.
The party made the demand in a petition signed by its Director of Administration, Ayoola Olajolo, and submitted to the police in Abuja.
Olajolo alleged that Hunye had used both print and social media platforms to claim that he was the APC’s candidate, describing the move as an alleged act of impersonation capable of misleading members of the public and threatening electoral peace in the state.
According to the APC official, Hunye’s activities amount to a “false, fraudulent” representation of the party and could create confusion over its officially recognized candidate ahead of the 2027 election.
The party further alleged that Hunye had been suspended from the APC on April 7, 2026, following a petition from his ward in Ipokia Local Government Area. The suspension, Olajolo said, was subsequently ratified by the Ogun State Working Committee and communicated to the national leadership of the party.
He said the suspension followed allegations of anti-party activities and conduct allegedly intended to create division among APC members.
Olajolo maintained that the party had already conducted its governorship primary and had officially recognized Sen. Adeola Olamilekan as its governorship candidate, with Balogun Kudirat Abiodun as the deputy governorship candidate.
The APC therefore asked the Inspector-General of Police to invite Hunye for questioning and investigate the allegations, including alleged impersonation, conduct likely to cause a breach of peace and violations of the Electoral Act, 2026.
The party also urged the police to take steps to prevent Hunye from further presenting himself as the APC’s candidate, arguing that such action would help avert possible confusion and tension ahead of the election.
Olajolo assured the police of the cooperation of both the APC national headquarters and its Ogun State chapter, adding that the party was prepared to provide witnesses and other relevant information to assist the investigation.
